Cody Steinbach (Otter Tail Co. Jail)
FERGUS FALLS, Minn. (KFGO KBRF) – A New York Mills man has been sentenced for threatening to shoot his former girlfriend last January.
Cody Steinbach, 34, was given three years of supervised probation for threats of violence.
Otter Tail County prosecutors say the victim, who had broken up with Steinbach the day before, wanted to retrieve her belongings from his home. When she arrived, Steinbach let her in and she went to the garage to collect her property. He then began to push her and told her to leave, before leaving the garage and returning with a handgun.
The victim told deputies that Steinbach fired off a round before pointing the gun at her chest. The victim stood in the garage as he then put the gun against her forehead. Shortly after, a witness arrived at the house, and the victim told them to call the police.
Steinbach was originally charged with 2nd degree assault, which was dismissed as part of a plea agreement. He pleaded guilty in March.
