FARGO, N.D. (NDSU Athletics)– Redshirt freshman Noah Feddersen scored a career-high 17 points to lead six Bison in double figures, as the North Dakota State men’s basketball team won an 83-78 overtime thriller over San Jose State on Monday night.
NDSU improved to 5-4 on the season with the victory over the Mountain West Conference foe.
Feddersen finished with 17 points and six rebounds – both season-highs – to power the Bison through a back-and-forth battle. Junior Jacari White scored 13 for NDSU, Boden Skunberg added 12, and Damari Wheeler-Thomas added 11 points.
Bison sophomore Tajavis Miller posted a double-double with 10 points, 10 rebounds and a team-high five assists.
NDSU led for 35 of the game’s 45 minutes. There were 10 ties and eight lead changes in the second half and overtime.
After going up by as many as 15 points at 36-21 in the first half, NDSU saw San Jose State storm back to take a 40-38 lead early in the second half.
The game went to overtime tied at 72-72 after the Spartans erased a 68-61 deficit with 2:20 to play. Myron Amey, Jr. gave San Jose State a brief 72-71 lead on a three-point play with 6.1 seconds remaining. Wheeler-Thomas was fouled on the next possession with 2.5 seconds left, hitting 1-of-2 free throws to force overtime.
In the extra period, a three-point play by Andrew Morgan and a three-pointer from Skunberg gave the Bison a four-point lead they would not relinquish.
NDSU made 12-of-24 from beyond the arc (50 percent) to overcome 53-percent free throw shooting on the night.
San Jose State’s Alvaro Cardenas scored 22 points to lead all players.
NDSU will host Portland on Thursday at 7 p.m. inside the Scheels Center.
