FARGO (KFGO) – A Detroit, Michigan man has been 15 years in federal prison for leading a drug trafficking organization that targeted two North Dakota Indian Reservations.
Devonsha Dabney, 29, pleaded guilty to continuing criminal enterprise.
The US Attorney’s Office says the case is part of “Operation Letter to Reub,” an organized crime and drug enforcement investigation into multi-state sales of oxycodone and fentanyl-laced pills. Investigators say the case was named after Reuben Rambus, who died. After the death, his brother, Romel Rambus, took over the criminal enterprise.
Dabney and others focused on areas with fewer law enforcement resources. Also receiving a 15 year sentence was Jonathan Walker. In all, 41 people were charged.
Thousands of pills were sold in Bismarck, Minot and the Fort Berthold and Spirit Lake Reservations.
US Attorney Mac Schneider says drug traffickers who think that Indian Country is a soft target because of a lack of law enforcement should think again.
Dabney and Walker were sentenced in Fargo by US District Court Judge Peter Welte.
