WILLISTON, N.D. (KFGO) – An oil company in northwestern North Dakota informed the state of a nearly 100,000-gallon produced water spill in Williams County over the weekend.
The Environmental Quality department said Grayson Mill Operating reported a spillage of 2,305 barrels, or 96,810 gallons, of produced water from a pipeline on a well pad. An unknown amount spilled into a containment pond next to the well pad. The spill happened about six miles west of Williston.
Produced water is a byproduct of oil production.
