FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) — The Fargo City Commission is still searching for a balanced budget for 2027.
At a meeting of the Finance Committee on Tuesday, city commissioners debated cuts to social service programs and an increase in funding for additional police officers.
The current preliminary budget is set to accommodate five additional police officers.
With additional adjustments including cutting funding to Hector International Airport and adjustments to city employees’ pay the budget is still short about $13,000.
Commissioners are calling on these organizations to appear before the commission.
“This is the time for these people to sing the praises of what they do. This is an opportunity. This isn’t a threat,” Commissioner Chad Peterson said.
“Are these charitable donations, or are there accountable, contractual relationships that are established, where they deliver services for the money they get? I think that clarification would help us also,” Commissioner John Strand added.
The Finance Committee plans to hear from those organizations at their next meeting on September 23.
