(KNFL/KFGO) – After the RedHawks clinched a playoff birth Friday night, they were looking to take another game from the Milwaukee Milkmen Saturday night. Eric Chalus would get the start for Fargo-Moorhead. He would be opposed by Cody Templeton of Milwaukee.
Griffin Doersching would start the scoring with an RBI single in the bottom of the first.
Tucipita Marcano would draw a bases loaded walk in the top of the second which tied the game.
Fargo-Moorhead would take their first and only lead of the game, as Tripp Clark hit an RBI double to left field, making it a 2-1 RedHawks lead.
Milwaukee would score four unanswered runs in the bottom of the fourth. Yordys Valdés would tie the game on an RBI single, and Delvin Pérez would give Milwaukee the lead on an RBI single. Then, former RedHawk Alec Olund, grounded a two-run single to left field. That made it a 5-2 Milkmen lead.
Matt Given had come in to relief Cody Templeton, and he shut out Fargo-Moorhead through 3 2/3 innings, while striking out four. Justin Kelly came on in the seventh inning and struck out the side, Brady Puckett pitched a shutout eighth inning, and Ryan Boyer secured the save in the top of the ninth, as Milwaukee would win 5-2.
Milwaukee would put in four total pitchers from the bullpen, as they would combine for 6 2/3 shutout innings. Matt Given would be the winning pitcher, while Eric Chalus of Fargo-Moorhead would be given the loss. Chalus went five innings, while giving up five earned runs, and striking out five batters.
After a Winnipeg win Saturday, Fargo-Moorhead will either finish as the 3rd or 4th seed in the West Division Playoffs. Sioux Falls won to clinch the final playoff spot, and are one game back of Fargo-Moorhead. The RedHawks have a current mark of 51-47.
