(KNFL/KFGO) – It was the rubber game Thursday night at Newman outdoor Field between the RedHawks and Sioux Falls Canaries. It would be Parker Harm taking the mound to face Sioux Falls starting pitcher Garrett Martin.
Neither team would score until the bottom of the 3rd inning. With the bases loaded, Jose Sermo hit a hard grounder to Canaries first baseman Mike Hart that resulted in two runs scoring and it was 2-0 RedHawks. Tucupita Marcano followed with a three run homer to give the RedHawks a 5-0 lead after 3 inning.
In the top of the 4th inning, the Canaries would score two runs off RBI singles by Scott Combs and Grady Mee and it was 5-2. The RedHawks would continue their hit barrage in the bottom of the 4th. Tripp Clark would hit a RBI double, Tucipita Marcano would hit a two run double, and Dillon Thomas would hit a RBI single making it 9-2. The RedHawks would have 14 hits after just four innings.
The RedHawks would increase their lead to 11-2 when Jesus Lujano hit a two run homerun in the 5th.
In the top of the 6th, the Canaries put up five runs against RedHawks pitcher Kahler Key. Scott Combs hit a RBI double, Joe Vos followed with a RBI single, and then Mike Hart hit a three run homerun to make it 11-7. The Canaries would add another run in the top of the 8th when Josh Rehwaldt hit a RBI double to make it 11-8.
The RedHawks would ass some insurance runs in the bottom of the 8th inning with a RBI single by Brian Fuentes and a fielder’s choice RBi by Jesus Lujano. That made it 13-8 RedHawks after 8 innings.
Tyler Jeans would come in to pitch the 9th inning and strike out all three batters he faced. The RedHawks pitching staff would strikeout 17 Canaries batters tonight.
