FARGO, N.D. (KFGO) – Fargo City Commissioner Michelle Turnberg is concerned with an effort to change the city’s government to a city council because ward maps won’t be drawn before voters go to the polls.
On “News and Views”, former Commissioner Arlette Preston, who’s part of the group Fargo Wards for Equal Representation, pointed out the ballot measure has language banning elected officials from the committee that will draw the maps if voters approve the change.
“It will take good, solid monitoring and input and we’re planning to watch the process very closely,” Preston said.
Under a city council, the mayor would only vote on an issue to break a tie.
The special election will be held October 6.
