MOBRIDGE, S.D. (KFGO) — Two men had to be rescued from their boat after it got stuck on a large mud flat in north-central South Dakota.
South Dakota Game, Fish, and Parks says the two men were boating on the Moreau River, which is a tributary of the Missouri that empties into Lake Oahe. The boat got stuck on the mud flat Wednesday afternoon.
First responders tried to used a SHERP amphibious vehicle to get to the men, but could not because the mud was too soft and deep. South Dakota conservation officers were called the next day. They were forced to launch their air boat 5 miles away due to the mud, but were able to safely reach the stuck boat. They were rescued and evaluated by EMS.
GFP says the men were stranded for about 24 hours.
Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe, Dewey and Walworth County Emergency Management, and Mobridge Ambulance all responded.
