NAYTAHWAUSH, MN (KFGO) – A Moorhead man faces charges after allegedly crashing his vehicle into a building on Saturday night, then fleeing from deputies on foot, authorities said.
Charles Ortley, 36, was arrested following a short foot pursuit after the crash in Naytahwaush, according to Mahnomen County Sheriff Josh Guenther.
Deputies and a Naytahwaush ambulance crew responded to a report of a motor vehicle accident on County Road 4 at 8:21 p.m. Saturday. Investigators determined that Ortley’s vehicle went off the roadway, jumped an approach, and landed on a building.
A resident was inside the building at the time of the crash but was not injured, Guenther said.
Ortley allegedly fled the scene on foot before authorities arrived. Deputies located him several hundred yards west of the crash site and apprehended him after a brief chase.
According to the sheriff’s office, Ortley appeared highly intoxicated but refused to submit to sobriety tests. Investigators found pills and open alcohol bottles inside the vehicle. Witnesses told law enforcement that Ortley had arrived at a party already intoxicated prior to the crash.
Ortley was evaluated by medical personnel and cleared before being transported to the county jail.
