(KNFL/KFGO) – The RedHawks and Lincoln Saltdogs began a three game series in Lincoln on Monday evening. The RedHawks would strike first in the top of the 1st inning when a passed ball by Lincoln Catcher Griffin Everitt would allow Juan Fernandez to score to make in 1-0. With one out in the bottom of the 1st, Nick Shumpert had what appeared to be a double only to be robbed by Dillon Thomas with an over the shoulder catch.
RedHawks starter Bryce Brassfield would have a perfect game through 4 innings with 6 strikeouts before Saltdogs’ Jairo Pomares broke up the no-hitter and shutout in the bottom of the 5th to make it 1-1.
The RedHawks would score another run in the 6th when Saltdogs’ starter Graham Edwards threw a wild pitch that allowed Brian Fuentes to score from third to give the RedHawks a 2-1 lead. The Saltdogs would again tie the game in the bottom of the 6th when Cary Arbolida hit a RBI single to make it 2-2.
In the top of the 7th inning, Juan Fernandez would hit a leadoff double. Dillon Thomas would follow with an opposite field two run homer to give the RedHawks a 4-2 lead.
In the bottom of the 8th inning, the Lincoln Saltdogs would tie it up again with a run scored on a wild pitch by Angelo Cabral and a sacrifice fly by Jairo Pomares to make it a 4-4 game. Neither team would score in the 9th inning taking the ballgame into extra innings.
In the top of the 10th, Jesus Lujano would hit a chopper to third that would score Jairus Richards to make it it 5-4 RedHawks. Juan Fernandez would add an insurance run with a sacrifice fly to make it 6-4. The Saltdogs would score one run in the bottom of the 10th as the RedHawks went on to win 6-5.
