(KNFL/KFGO) – The FM RedHawks started a three game series against the Gary Southshore RailCats on Friday. The RedHawks would send starting pitcher Wyatt Cheney to the mound to face RailCats’ Deyni Olivero.
Neither team would score in the first inning. In the top on the 2nd inning with 2 outs, Jairus Richards hit a solo homerun to give the RedHawks a 1-0 lead.
In the 5th inning the RedHawks would add an insurance run when Juan Fernandez hit a sacrifice fly that brought in Aidan Bryne to make it 2-0.
RedHawks’ Wyatt Cheney was on cruise control until the 5th inning when he loaded the bases. The RailCats would score on a bases loaded walk and a wild pitch to tie the game 2-2. Cheney would go 5.1 innings with 11 strikeouts while giving up 2 runs. Parker Harm would enter the game in the 6th inning with one out. He would induce a one pitch double play to end the RailCats threat to end the inning.
In the bottom of the 7th inning, Cooper Weiss would get the best of PArker Harm and crush a two run homerun to give the RailCats a 4-2 lead.
In the top of the 8th the RedHawks would get another run when Jarius Richards reached on a fielder’s choice to plate Juan Fernandez making it 4-3.
The RailCats would add two more runs in the bottom of the 8th when Marc Flores brought two runners in to give the RailCats a 6-3 lead. Jacob Coats would pitch 1.2 innings and shut it down to earn the save as the RailCats would win 6-3.
