FARGO (KFGO/KVRR) – Fargo’s new site for an engagement center is now open. The Resource and Recovery Center at 2001 First Avenue North opened Thursday with a ribbon cutting. The center offers services to homeless people.
“Next week, we can essentially get guests over here. We will have a shuttle, we’ll provide rides so they can get over here and check it out. They need to see it so they can decide whether or not it is the place they want to come. Most of them have seen it and are very happy about it. We’ll still be moving out of that building for some time,” said Jan Eliassen, Director of Harm Reduction and Division for Fargo Cass Public Health.
Late last year, the city commission voted to move the engagement center out of downtown Fargo. Commissioner Michelle Turnberg says news about the shuttle service surprised her. Turnberg says she wants to know how the service is being funded.
“I’d like to know the added cost when we have good public transit.” Turnberg said.
