(UND Athletics) GRAND FORKS – Head Coach Paul Sather and the North Dakota men’s basketball program announced a trio of recruits have signed to play for the Fighting Hawks in 2023-24. The three prospective student-athletes include a pair of teammates from Bismarck Century and a recruit from St. Francis, Minn.
Matthew Bothun | F | 6-9 | St. Francis, Minn. | St. Francis HS
Four-year letterwinner at St. Francis HS in Minnesota … Averaged 25.8 points per game as a junior … Had three 37-point performances over a five-game span last year … Sits eighth on the school’s all-time scoring list with 1,048 career points … Also averaged nine boards, three assists and 2.2 blocks per game last season … Named First-Team All-Conference in the Mississippi 8 Conference as a junior … Also had Second-Team All-Conference honors as a sophomore with 18.8 points per game and 9.3 rebounds per game.

Helped lead Bismarck Century to a 21-6 record and fifth place finish at the North Dakota Class A Tournament as a junior … Averaged 17.1 points per game, 6.2 rebounds per game, 3.5 assists per game and 1.5 steals per game in 2021-22 … Earned First Team All-State accolades last season … Named All-WDA both his sophomore and junior seasons … Three-year member of the honor society … Also plays soccer and runs track at CHS.

Also helped lead Bismarck Century to a 21-6 record and fifth place finish at the North Dakota Class A Tournament last season … Averaged 15.6 points per game while hauling in a WDA-best 11.0 rebounds per game in 2021-22 … Shot 52.0 percent from the floor last season … Named First-Team All-Conference as a junior.
