(KFGO/KNFL) After being shut out for the first time this season on Friday, the Fargo Force wasted no time finding the back of the net on Saturday. Fargo scores four times in the opening period and tallied seven special-teams goals in a 7-2 win over Sioux City before a crowd of 3,166 at Scheels Arena.
Fargo scored five times on the power-play and twice short-handed. The Force now have scored three short-handed goals on the season. Cole Knuble scored a pair of goals with the man advantage in the first period. Kyle Smolen added a short-handed goal in the opening period, scoring on a smooth back-hander.
Sioux City countered with an Easton Zueger goal early in the second period to cut the Fargo lead to 4-1. The Musketeers chipped away again in the 3rd as Sam Deckhut crashed the net for a goal past Force goalie Matej Marinov to make it 4-2.
Fargo countered just over a minute later shorthanded, as Verner Miettinen chased down a loose puck in the corner, found Anthony Menghini in the slot who scored to make it 5-2. Miettinen added a power play goal at 10:04 of the 3rd to add some insurance.
Miettinen and Knuble each totaled two goals and two assists. Marinov recorded 34 saves, as he now 3-0 on the season.
Fargo hosts Tri-City on Thursday and Friday at Scheels Arena.
