(KFGO/KNFL) The Fargo Force shut out the Tri-City Storm 4-0 on Thursday night before a crowd of 3,786 at Scheels Arena. The win puts the Force in first place in the USHL’s Western Conference.
After a Tri-City penalty, Fargo struck first as Verner Miettinen tipped a Joe Palodichuk shot from the blueline past Storm goalie Karlis Mezsgars at 6:31 of the 1st period to make it 1-0.
Tanner Walos upped the lead to 2-0 in the 2nd period. Off a 3-on-2 as a Fargo penalty expired, Walos tipped a Bret Link pass into the back of the net at 13:08.
Miettinen tallied Fargo’s first short-handed goal of the season. A Tri-City turnover led to a breakaway chance as Link fed Miettinen to make it 3-0.
Charlie Russell’s third goal of the season made it 4-0 in the 3rd period.
Fargo goalie Anton Castro stopped 21 shots for his first career USHL shutout. The Force killed off seven Storm power plays on the evening. Tri-City drops its fourth consecutive game.
The Force (5-1-0-1, 11 pts) are off until October 28 when they host Sioux City at Scheels Arena.
