(KFGO/KNFL) The Winnipeg Goldeyes used a big 3rd inning to chase Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks started Kevin McGovern and take a 6-3 win in the first game of the American Association West Division playoffs at Shaw Park in Winnipeg.
After John Silviano’s solo homer gave the RedHawks a 1-0 lead in the 2nd inning, the Goldeyes batted around in the last of the 3rd and scored five runs. Raul Navarro and Max Murphy drove in runs for Winnipeg in the inning.
McGovern lasted only three innings allowing five runs (four earned).
Winnipeg starter Landen Bourassa stymied the RedHawks offense, allowing four hits and one run in seven innings.
Drew Ward also homered for Fargo-Moorhead.
Fargo-Moorhead needs a win on Friday to keep its season alive. Game 2 of the best-of-three series is at 6:30 Friday night at Newman Outdoor Field.
