WEST FARGO – The Fargo Shanley Deacons opened the game on a 7-0 run and never trailed in their 49-41 win over West Fargo in the Eastern Dakota Conference girls basketball quarterfinals on Tuesday afternoon.
Shanley grabbed a 27-9 lead at the half and extended their advantage to as many as 20 points in the second half, only to see the Packers cut the deficit to 4 points late in the game.
Up 42-24 with 5:47 left in regulation, West Fargo sophomore guard Chloe Pfau started to get in rhythm with 3 three-pointers. Pfau scored 17 of her 19 points in the second half, after battling foul trouble throughout the game.
Mo Hakim paced Shanley with 14 points and 8 rebounds while Emily Srejma added 12 points and 11 rebounds for the Deacons.
Shanley (13-8 overall) heads to the semifinals and will play the winner of Grand Forks Red River/Valley City on Thursday.
West Fargo (14-7 overall) will play the loser of Grand Forks Red River/Valley City in the consolation semifinals on Thursday.
