FARGO – The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks will have a new manager for the 2020 season.
Jim Bennett is not coming back after one year with the organization and Chris Coste will be the interim manager.
“On behalf of the RedHawks organization, I thank Jim for his efforts as our manager in 2019.” said Brad Thom, RedHawks President/CEO. “He helped bring us back to the playoffs, but unfortunately we couldn’t come to an agreement on the extent of his role for this year and ultimately we had to go in another direction”.
Bennett was named the 2019 American Association manager of the year, leading the RedHawks to their first postseason appearance since 2013.
Fargo-Moorhead finished 63-37 in the regular season and lost to St. Paul in the North Division Championship Series in the playoffs.
Coste is currently the head baseball coach for the Concordia Cobbers, he was part of the inaugural RedHawks team in 1996 and bench coach for Fargo-Moorhead last season.
“The RedHawks have been a big part of my baseball career and I didn’t envision this situation happening, especially with everything else going on this year.” said Coste. “I look forward to the future of the organization, but more importantly, my goal is to ensure the current 2020 season is positive and successful, not only for the players and team on the field, but also for the entire organization, and most important, for baseball fans and the entire Fargo-Moorhead community.”
On Friday, the American Association announced the 2020 season will be a modified 60-game schedule. The RedHawks have their season-opener on July 3 against the Winnipeg Goldeyes.
