FARGO, N.D. (NDSU Athletics)- CharMar Brown rushed for a career-high 126 yards and three touchdowns to lead No. 2-ranked North Dakota State to a 41-24 homecoming win over Towson on Saturday, Sept. 21, before a crowd of 17,185 at Gate City Bank Field at the Fargodome.
Cam Miller completed his first 14 pass attempts and finished 17 of 19 for 219 yards and one TD for the Bison, who improved to 3-1 overall heading into next week’s Missouri Valley Football Conference opener at Illinois State.
NDSU opened up a 24-3 lead before halftime thanks to a 67-yard punt return touchdown by Jackson Williams and Miller’s 19-yard scoring pass to Bryce Lance capping an impressive nine-play, 88-yard drive in the final minutes of the second quarter.
It was 31-10 late in the third before Towson (1-3) clawed its way back into the game. The Tigers got a 15-yard touchdown run from Carlos Davis, held the Bison three-and-out on the next possession, then scored on the next play with a 72-yard run by Tyrell Greene Jr. making it 31-24 with 10:05 to play.
NDSU ate up 5 minutes and 28 seconds on the ensuring drive with Brown rushing for 41 yards on five carries before the Bison settled for a 34-yard Griffin Crosa field goal to make it a two-score game with 4:28 left.
Williams led the Bison with 169 all-purpose yards, cornerback Marcus Sheppard had his first interception and a pass breakup on fourth down to stall a late Towson drive, and the Bison defense got six tackles apiece from linebackers Oscar Benson, Marcus Gulley and Logan Kopp.
