AIDEN WOLF WALKS IT OFF IN THE 10TH INNING TO WIN WEST FARGO THE ND CLASS AA STATE LEGION TOURNAMENT.
FARGO, N.D. (KVRR/KNFL)–West Fargo defeated Fargo Post 2 on Friday to advance to Saturday’s North Dakota American Legion baseball Class AA State Championship. After Friday’s loss, Fargo Post 2 had to defeat Bismarck on Friday to advance to the title game themselves–they did.
The defending champs, Post 2, had to defeat West Fargo twice to win State, but West Fargo needed just the first game to get the job done. In a 1-1 game in the 10th inning, Aiden Wolf led off the bottom half of the inning with a deep drive to left field that cleared the fence and won the game for the Patriots to capture the State Title.
“In a 2-2 count, I was just sitting fast ball and he gave it to me,” said Wolf on the game-winning at bat. “I drove it over the fence.”
The Patriots were down 1-0 most of the game after Post 2 scored in the top of the first inning. But the Pats tied it up in the 6th and then lock-down pitching ensued from both teams to push the game deep into extra innings.
“Regardless of the situation, we just keep fighting,” said Wolf. “We love each other and we want to keep playing together.”
West Fargo now prepares for the Central Plains Regional and will be the host playing at Young Field. They open the tournament on Wednesday, Aug 7.
Post 2 also qualifies for the Regional tournament and will too play on Wednesday.
