LOS ANGELES – The official document from a rare 1963 presidential pardon, signed by both President John F. Kennedy and his brother, Attorney General Robert Kennedy, and granting clemency to a Minnesota man — is up for auction.
Laura Kirk with Los Angeles-based auction house Nate D. Sanders Auctions, says there is an added rarity to the document. She says this one is the latest example before his death. It’s dated only 8 days before the President’s assassination.
Kirk says a Minneapolis man, Ted Barto, was wrongly accused after the flight school he worked for submitted false claims to the government for G-I flying lessons but he appealed to the president and Kennedy granted a full pardon.
Barto’s family is offering the document at an online auction which runs through 7 pm central time tonight (Thurs).
