BROOKINGS, S.D. (KFGO/KWAT) – The Brookings County Sheriff’s Department is searching for a man and woman accused of stealing one vehicle and attempting to steal a second one Tuesday evening.
The first theft happened around 7 p.m. at a gas station in Arlington where the pair threatened a victim with a rifle and stole their vehicle. The pair fled the scene at a high rate of speed and drove to Volga where they tried to steal a second vehicle, and a customer was punched in the face. The victim fought back and the pair fled east on Highway 14 in the vehicle they stole in Arlington.
The two eventually stopped on Highway 14 and left the vehicle.
The Brookings County Sheriff’s Department, Moody County Sheriff’s Department, Brookings Police, and South Dakota Highway Patrol conducted an extensive search of the area using drones with thermal imaging cameras, but they were unable to find the suspects.
