WASHINGTON – The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has issued its most serious level of recall for stolen Medtronic larynx-examination video scopes that are being sold on social media platforms.
The devices did not pass Medtronic quality tests and were to be destroyed.
The FDA said medical complications could include “inadequate airway support, cardiopulmonary arrest, and death.” Medtronic issued a public safety notification in late September, but said no injuries or deaths have been reported.
A visit to Medtronics’ facility in Australia is part of the governor’s trade mission that’s under way.
