ST. PAUL, Minn. – The latest state-issued report shows Minnesota’s estimated workplace (non-fatal) injury and illness rate increased slightly in 2022 from the year before to just under four cases per 100 full-time-equivalent (FTE) workers — which translates to about 85,000 workplace injuries and illnesses last year.
The state Department of Labor and Industry’s James Honerman says, in that survey of 4300 workplaces, “About 86 percent of the reported illnesses were due to COVID-19 cases.”
State government hospitals had the highest injury and illness rate — nearly eight times the average across all industries. Spectator sports, performing arts, and related industries had rates over five times the statewide average. State government nursing and residential care facilities were about four times higher.
