MINNEAPOLIS – A man from Red Lake will spend more than five years in federal prison for a drunken-driving crash in November of 2021 that left his passenger dead.
Court records said Gerald Wayne Johnson, 27, was driving over 90 miles per hour while intoxicated on the Red Lake Reservation when he missed a curve and crashed into a tree. Johnson’s passenger was thrown from the car and died of her injuries.
Investigators said several bottles of alcohol were found inside and outside Johnson’s totaled vehicle.
Johnson pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter.
