FARGO (KFGO) – A St. Michael, North Dakota woman pleaded guilty in federal court last week for her role in the crash that led to the deaths of three people and serious injury to a juvenile two years ago.
The North Dakota U.S. Attorney’s office said 20-year-old Trina Hunt entered the guilty plea on three counts of Involuntary Manslaughter and one count of Assault Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury.
On August 11, 2021, Bureau of Indian Affairs patrol officers responded to a call of a two-vehicle crash along Heart Road on the Spirit Lake Reservation. Hunt was driving one of the vehicles with two passengers. A second driver, Winter Bigtrack, was driving the other vehicle and had four passengers. Two of the passengers – a man and a boy – died at the scene. A third passenger, a minor female, later died. A fourth passenger, another girl, suffered injuries that required her to be transported and admitted to an intensive care unit in Fargo.
The investigation revealed that both Hunt and Bigtrack were driving recklessly and at high speeds without licenses, while under the influence of drugs and alcohol.
Bigtrack previously pled guilty and was sentenced to serve nearly five years in prison.
Hunt’s sentencing is scheduled for November 7.
