ST. PAUL, Minn. – There’s hearing in a Minnesota Senate committee Tuesday evening on the removal of two top officials from the state Department of Veterans Affairs.
Commissioner Larry Herke announced Sunday that Deputy Commissioner Doug Hughes and Hastings Veterans Home administrator Mike Anderson were no longer employed by the department. Their removals follow reports of a hostile work environment which jeopardized the care provided to veterans.
Senate State and Local Government and Veterans Committee Chair Erin Murphy of St. Paul said she was grateful to see the MDVA acting to address what she called “unacceptable conditions for veterans and their caregivers” in Hastings.
The committee will take questions and hear from Commissioner Herke.
