CLOQUET, Minn. – A pilot is okay after crashing a small airplane into Big Lake in northeastern Minnesota.
The Carlton County Sheriff’s Office received a report Saturday afternoon that a home-built aircraft lost part of its landing gear when it took off from Fish Lake in St. Louis County. The pilot was planning to make an emergency landing at the Cloquet Airport, but determined the safest place to land would be Big Lake.
Deputies said the plane successfully landed on the frozen lake and the pilot was not injured.
