(KFGO/KNFL) The Fargo Force kept its lead in the Western Conference standings. Anthony Menghini’s goal at 1:17 into overtime gave Fargo a 4-3 victory over Sioux Falls at Scheels Arena on Wednesday night.
Trailing 1-0 after the first period, the Force evened the game at 2:04 of the 2nd period as Kevin Scott scored on a rebound of a Bret Link shot to make it 1-1. Sioux Falls answered back on an Isaac Gordon goal 44 seconds later to make it 2-1 Stampede. Mac Swanson’s goal at 13:51 of the period tied the game at 2-2. German Yavash gave Fargo the lead, scoring off a faceoff win from Verner Miettinen with 2:13 left in the period for a 3-2 Fargo lead after two periods.
Sioux Falls tied it with 2:04 left on a Maxim Strbak goal, forcing overtime. It was the second overtime game between the two teams this season, setting the stage for Menghini’s winner. Menghini has a point in eight consecutive games for the Force, scoring five goals and four assists in that stretch.
Fargo will host Omaha in a weekend series starting Friday night. Both games can be heard on 101.9 JACK FM.
