BROOKINGS, S.D. (KFGO) – A woman is dead after a tanker truck rear-ended her SUV on I-29 a mile south of Brookings last Wednesday morning.
The Highway Patrol said 40-year-old Kelly Rodriguez, of Lincoln, Neb., was parked in the driving lane when she was hit by the truck. The SUV was pushed into the ditch and came to a rest against a sign.
The truck went into the ditch, crossed a service road, and came to a rest on the railroad tracks. The truck driver, a 39-year-old man from Davis, S.D., suffered serious, non life-threatening injuries. He was taken to a Brookings hospital.
Both drivers were wearing seatbelts. The crash remains under investigation.
