BISMARCK – The North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) announced its third edition of football Players-of-the-Week honors Monday. Tim Salmon of Mayville State (N.D.) was selected as the Offensive Player-of-the-Week. Deqwunn McCobb of Waldorf (Iowa) was selected to the Defensive Player-of-the-Week, while his teammate Morgan Dostal was named as the Special Teams Player-of-the-Week.
NSAA Football Offensive Player of the Week
Tim Salmon – Mayville State (N.D.) – 6’3″ – 225 lbs., Sophomore – quarterback – New Richmond, Wis. – Salmon broke a pair of single-game school records in propelling Mayville State (N.D.) to a 55-48 thrilling overtime home victory over NCAA Division III Nebraska Wesleyan. He was 22-of-40 for 525 yards and threw seven touchdowns in the game, setting single-game school records in passing yards and touchdown passes. He threw a pair of 70-plus yards touchdown passes, as well as a pair of 50-plus yards touchdown passes. Salmon hit a 38-yard touchdown pass to Javeion Davison as the Comets rallied back to knot the game at 48-48 with 40 seconds remaining. He added a 26-yard touchdown pass to kick off the overtime period and held on to their second straight victory.
NSAA Football Defensive Player of the Week
Deqwunn McCobb – Waldorf (Iowa) – 6’3″ – 315 lbs., Senior – defensive line – Bradenton, Fla. – McCobb tallied four tackles (2 solo, 2 assist), including 1.5 tackles-for-loss of 12 yards, in fueling Waldorf (Iowa) to a 54-21 home victory over NCAA Division III Simpson (Iowa). He had a quarterback sack for 10 yards loss.
NSAA Football Special Teams Player of the Week
Morgan Dostal – Waldorf (Iowa) – 6’3″ – 225 lbs. – Senior – linebacker – Wallingford, Iowa – Dostal returned two touchdowns on a pair of failed punts by NCAA Division III Simpson (Iowa), routing to a 54-21 home victory for Waldorf (Iowa). He returned a 22-yard touchdown in the third quarter to extend WU’s lead to 30-14. Dostal added a 20-yard touchdown for the Warriors, widening their lead to 44-14 late in the third quarter.
