BISMARCK–The North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) announced its third edition of volleyball players-of-the-week honors Monday. Elora Passa of Mayville State (N.D.) was selected as Attacker of the Week. Olivia Galas of Bellevue (Neb.) was chosen as the Setter-of-the-Week. Laura Babcock of Presentation (S.D.) was named as the Defender-of-the-Week.
NSAA Volleyball Attacker-of-the-Week
Elora Passa – Mayville State (N.D.) – 5’9″, Junior, outside hitter/setter – Barnesville, Minn. – Passa racked up a total of 65 kills as Mayville State (N.D.) went 2-2 record in the College of Saint Mary (Neb.) Labor Day Classic. She posted a triple-double of 24 kills (4.8 kills per set), 15 set assists, and 15 digs as MSU held on to a 3-2 thriller over Morningside (Iowa). She followed up with another triple-double of 23 kills (4.6 kills per set), 16 set assists, and 12 digs as Mayville State fell short to Briar Cliff (Iowa) in five sets. She concluded the tournament with 17 kills (5.7 kills per set) and 10 assists, despite a 3-0 sweep by host-team CSM. For the week, Passa averaged 4.1 kills per set and hit .237. She also averaged 3.8 set assists and 2.7 digs per set. Passa collected nine blocks and two service aces for the week.
NSAA Volleyball Setter-of-the-Week
Olivia Galas – Bellevue (Neb.) – 5’9″, Senior, setter – Bellevue, Neb. – Galas nearly recorded a triple-double twice in matches against nationally-ranked Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.) and Central Methodist (Mo.) as No. 12 Bellevue (Neb.) went 2-2 record in their own tournament. She had 65 set assists (13.0 assists per set), 10 kills, and 9 digs in BU’s 3-2 thriller over No. 17 Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.). She followed up with 55 set assists, 19 digs and nine kills after a 3-2 setback to No. 15 Central Methodist (Mo.). She added 47 set assists and 14 digs in 3-1 victory over Columbia International (S.C.) and finished the tournament with 23 assists in 3-0 defeat to Westmont (Calif.). For the week, Galas piled up 190 set assists (11.2 assists per set), 48 digs (2.8 digs per set), 30 kills (1.8 kills per set) and seven service aces (0.4 aces per set).
NSAA Volleyball Defender-of-the-Week
Laura Babcock – Presentation (S.D.) – 5’6″, Senior, defensive specialist – Aberdeen, S.D. – Babcock recorded nearly a total of 100 digs for the week as Presentation (S.D.) went 1-4 record for the week, including a 1-3 record in the College of Saint Mary (Neb.) Labor Day Classic. She also registered at least two set assists in each match. Babcock totaled 99 digs and averaged 5.8 digs per set for the Saints.
