JAMESTOWN, N.D. (KFGO) – A New York man is in custody following a home burglary in north Jamestown Monday night.
Police say Robert Jay Smoke, 55, of Hogansburg, N.Y. is accused of smashing out a window to gain entry to the home on the 400 block of 4th Street NE shortly before 10 p.m.
A neighbor notified the resident of the home, who was away at the time, of the break-in.
Officers say they found a broken window and, during the investigation, determined several electronic devices had been stolen. The suspect had left the scene, but a video security system was used to identify the suspect.
The suspect was located by other officers at a nearby residence. Police say he was still in possession of the stolen property.
Police don’t know if the suspect and victim are known to one another.
Smoke was arrested and has been formally charged with burglary, theft of property, and criminal mischief.
