WEST FARGO (KFGO) – It’s still preliminary but there’s a plan to expand the campground facilities at the fairgrounds in West Fargo. It would be nearly three times the size of the existing site that now has 78 campsites. There would be 130 new spots.
Cody Cashman, general manager of the fair, asked the city commission to have city staff work with them on an ordinance amendment that would approve an option for a stand-alone campground that would then be submitted to the Planning and Zoning Commission for approval.
He said there would be no problem filling those new camping spots. Cashman said they regularly have to turn away campers because there’s no more room. Cashman said that is a “good problem” to have, but the new spots would result in as much as $500,000 in additional income for the fair.
City commissioners decided that prior to further action, public informational meetings will be scheduled to get input from homeowners who live near the site to determine if the expansion can proceed with their approval.
The price tag for expanding the camping site is about $3.5 million.
