MINNEAPOLIS (KFGO) – Former Minneapolis Police Officer Derek Chauvin’s attorney says pre-trial publicity and the threat of more rioting meant his client didn’t get a fair trial.
An appeal of his murder conviction in the death of George Floyd has been filed.
Attorney William Mohrman says several jurors feared for their own personal safety and they weren’t sequestered when unrest followed the death of Daunte Wright during the trial’s final week. Chauvin was found guilty of murder and manslaughter last April.
He was sentenced to more than 22 years in prison.
