OMAHA, Neb. (NDSU Athletics)– Max Loven and Tristen Roehrich combined for a season-best 13 strikeouts to help guide the North Dakota State baseball team to a 1-0 win at Omaha on Friday night at Tal Anderson Field.
Both teams battled through five scoreless innings until Logan Williams cracked an RBI double into left center scoring Cadyn Schwabe to give NDSU (20-10, 8-2 Summit) the 1-0 lead in the sixth. Omaha (15-16, 6-4 Summit) threatened to steal the edge in the eighth getting two runners on, but Roehrich was able to work the Bison out of the jam with a strikeout. One frame later in the ninth, Roehrich closed out the final inning with three straight strikeouts to help preserve the 1-0 victory.
Loven (5-2) picked up the win firing a season-high nine strikeouts with one walk over 6.2 innings. Roehrich earned his fourth save of the season firing four strikeouts with one walk and one hit over the final 2.1 innings. Caleb Riedel (2-2) paced the Mavericks with nine strikeouts over 6.0 innings.
Due to expected weather in Omaha, the Bison and the Mavericks will wrap up the series tomorrow with a doubleheader at Tal Anderson Field. Game one is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
