GRAND FORKS, N.D. – Five North Dakota NFL hopefuls showed their skills to professional scouts on Thursday afternoon as a part of North Dakota’s Pro Day at the Pollard Athletic Center. The event was well attended by the Fighting Hawk faithful, with over 400 fans in attendance.
The group of five Fighting Hawks participating in testing and on-field workouts attracted a huge turnout of NFL and CFL scouts. In total, 23 teams were represented from the NFL and CFL combined.
Matt Waletzko, Jordan Canady, Evan Holm, Jaxson Turner and Hayden Galvin each participated in at least three drills during the afternoon, with the 40-yard dash, 20-yard shuttle, bench press, broad jump, vertical jump, 3-cone drill and individual positional drills all taking place during the Pro Day.
All athletes showcased their abilities in preparation for the NFL Draft, set for April 28-30 in Las Vegas, Nev.
Times and results were all unofficial and not shared with the media, but some impressive performances took place during the event.
At the conclusion of the event, Waletzko and Canady did interviews with the media.
“It means the world… even today at this Pro Day to see all the green, black and white,” Waletzko said. “It means so much that there is so much support in this town for this team and I can’t thank UND, Grand Forks and this whole organization enough. My biggest goal coming in here was just to show the scouts I can still move well, bend well, do the position drills… and just be fluid. I am going to train here, and I will be back at home in Cold Springs with my family for the NFL Draft.”
“The plan now is to keep training,” Canady said. “It is pretty surreal to participate in Pro Day in Grand Forks. I remember when I first got a call from Coach Schweigert to offer me a scholarship at North Dakota, I didn’t even know where it was on the map. So, to be here with this opportunity and be up here with all my guys again, it’s just awesome. It has been a long time coming. I had the opportunity to play so much football and make a lot of great relationships up here. It’s been a great chapter and it’s kind of the last chapter at UND here.”
