Fifth-ranked Central Cass took down Northern Cass 68-57 in Region 1 boys’ basketball on Monday night. The Squirrels ran their dribble penetration offense brilliantly, which led to a decisive advantage in assists and points in the paint.
The Squirrels held a 37-27 edge at halftime and clamped down defensively in the second and third quarters, allowing just 20 Jaguars points and building a 22 point cushion heading into the fourth that wound up being too much for Northern Cass to surmount.
Cole Holzer paced the Squirrels with 22 points and 12 rebounds; Sam Kobbervig added 20 points and four steals.
Brock Carpenter led the Jaguars with 17 points, and Carter Osland had 14 as they combined for nine 3-pointers in a losing effort.
Central Cass improves to 11-2 (5-1 Region 1) and will play Kindred next Tuesday, Feb. 8.
Northern Cass falters to 7-6 (3-3 Region 1) and hosts Richland on Thursday, Feb. 3.
