DULUTH, MINN. (KFGO) – It’s Bob Dylan’s 80th birthday. The musical icon, born in Duluth and raised in Hibbing, is now honored around the world after more than 60 years as a pioneer of music.
Fans are commemorating the milestone with music and poetry events across the country.
The center of the festivities is in Duluth. Monday is the third day of the 11th annual Duluth Dylan Fest, which features performances by local artists and tribute bands.
The virtual and in-person festival includes a free birthday party at Dylan’s childhood home The nine-day event also includes songwriting and poetry contests in honor of the acclaimed singer-songwriter.
Dylan, spent the summer of 1959 in Fargo, under the name of Elston Gunnn playing briefly with several local bands, Bob Becker’s, Terry Lee and the Poor Boys, and Bobby Vee and the Shadows, but he was dropped after only a couple of performances.
