UPDATE:
CASS COUNTY, N.D. (KFGO) – A suspect identified as James Mayerhofer, 42, has been arrested for DUI and felony fleeing involving an incident Monday night on property owned by Joseph Larson, at 1212 49th avenue, north of Hector International Airport in Fargo.
Mayerhofer fled authorities who responded to a disturbance at the residence but crashed his vehicle. He was taken to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries, arrested, and taken to jail.
Cass County Sheriff Jesse Jahner says during the investigation, Mayerhofer told authorities Lason shot at him. Lason was not arrested and information will be turned over to the state’s attorney for further review.
Legislation referred to as the castle law, just signed by Governor Doug Burgum eases restrictions on citizens’ rights to use deadly force in self-defense and allows someone to use force without retreating in certain situations.
Jahner says as the investigation is not complete and it’s too soon to determine if the shooting incident would meet those standards.
