GLYNDON, Minn. (KVRR) – Marissa Berresford serves as a track administrator for Interstate Raceway in Glyndon, helping coordinate and schedule racing events.
When representatives of the Midnight Mafia reached out to set up something for 2027 – she was initially interested.
“They were like hey, we’re looking to do a meet or a couple of events in the summer. I was like, cool, what kind of meets or events?” said Berresford.
However, once the group got into the specifics of what they’d like to do – and Marissa dug deeper into their social media presence – she, alongside track ownership, decided hosting a Mafia event wasn’t in their best interests.

“They also wanted to do something that was called a pit. I wasn’t familiar with it, because I’m not really into the takeover scene, so I asked them to clarify,” she said. “They sling their cars all over the place with very little control and just step on the gas and that’s about it.”
Regarding the Mafia’s social media presence, Berresford elaborated, saying, “There was also the recent incident with the police drone footage that they posted and then promoted in a highlight reel, as if they liked that, a bunch of cars destroying a concrete pad.”
The Mafia publicized this interaction via a screenshot posted on their Facebook page, a move Berresford said was a little disappointing, but not surprising.

Interstate Raceway email to Midnight Mafia.
She says Interstate is happy to facilitate for organizations that like to drift and do other fun things with their cars, but the kind of behavior the Mafia promotes is not something the raceway wants to endorse.
“It’s a fantastic facility, and we’d really love to welcome everybody there, but as it stands, with Midnight Mafia behaving more like ten o’clock toddlers, it’s not the kind of scene that we really want to welcome there as a group,” said Berresford.
The Midnight Mafia Facebook post that included the screenshot went on to say, quote, “We respect Interstate Raceway’s decision, but we won’t stop searching for locations and working toward a solution.”
Interstate Raceway says they’re excited to continue collaborating with other car clubs, like Fargo Cars & Coffee, for their 2027 schedule of events.
