Apartment building evacuated, family displaced in early morning south Fargo fire

FARGO (KVRR) – An apartment building in south Fargo had to be evacuated and a family is displaced after a kitchen fire in the early morning hours of Wednesday.

Fargo fire officials say the mother woke up to a kitchen fire in the third floor unit of 4238 9th Avenue South sometime before the call came in to dispatch at around 6:18 a.m. Wednesday.

Fire officials say one of the children called 911, and that since the family are not native English speakers, it hampered communications somewhat, but everyone made it out okay.

The building was evacuated until the air was clear enough to return to the other apartments.

Firefighters say they had the fire out within about five minutes of their arrival.

The kitchen cabinets suffered heavy fire and smoke damage.

There’s no official estimate or cause, and no one was hurt.

This investigation is ongoing.
