FARGO (KFGO) — Fargo is considering raising utility rates to help pay for rising costs.
If approved, the cost would go up around 14 percent.
The proposed increase would be on top of the extended infrastructure sales tax recently approved by voters in June.
Mayor Josh Boschee says the increased costs of things like chemicals for water treatment are the reason for the proposed increase.
“Individual members are trying to kind of come up with their own game plan for Monday to say how can we minimize this impact,” Boschee said. “So there’s some different strategies looking at maybe this might be a graduated increase over the next few years or can some of these wait till next year? Versus this full blown impact this year. So, lots of great conversations and I think that’s what’s exciting.”
The topic is will be discussed during the Finance Committee’s meeting on Monday.
