(KNFL/KFGO) – University of North Dakota defenseman Keaton Verhoeff was selected ninth overall by the San Jose Sharks in the 2026 NHL Draft Friday night. In his freshman year at UND, Verhoeff played 36 games, while scoring six goals, and tallying up 14 assists.
Keaton Verhoeff helped UND reach the Frozen Four Semifinals in the 2025-26 season. Carson Carels, who’s committed to play collegiate hockey at UND next year, was also selected in the first round Friday evening. Carels was selected sixth overall by the Calgary Flames.
