FARGO (KFGO) – Investigators had to be unusually stealthy in the buildup to the arrest of a homicide suspect.
Working with Fargo police, the U.S. Marshals Service North Star Task Force took Jayvon Allen into custody Wednesday in Minneapolis.
Allen is a suspect in the ongoing homicide investigation of Azeem Holmes, who was killed in downtown Fargo on Aug. 3, 2025.
“Given the high-profile nature of this case, we made the decision not to publicly announce the existence of the warrant and that we were actively looking for Mr. Allen,” Fargo Police Captain Matt Christensen said. “We felt confident that he was unaware he was being sought, and we did not want to risk him going into hiding, which could have made it more difficult for us to locate him.”
At the request of the state’s attorney’s office, the record was temporarily sealed to give investigators the opportunity to locate and arrest Allen safely.
“While this is not standard practice in all cases, under these circumstances, it was an appropriate measure to avoid compromising the investigation,” Christensen added.
Christensen said the investigation involved a months-long dispute with a large number of people who might be connected with street gangs, but there is no evidence to indicate the actual dispute was related to those affiliations.
Investigators are still gathering evidence and want anyone with information to contact Fargo police.
