MINNEAPOLIS (KFGO/WCCO) – A Minneapolis woman is facing charges, after her 2 year old grandchild died from an overdose. Joanna Sanchez-Cordero, 42, is facing one count of second-degree manslaughter in the death of her grandson.
The criminal complaint says on March 18th, while the infant was in the care of his grandparents, the child stopped breathing. When police arrived they allegedly noticed drug paraphernalia inside both the bedroom and bathroom of the home.
Investigators spoke to the child’s grandfather who said that he had last seen the child alive around 11:00 p.m. the night before. The next morning, he claimed to have heard Sanchez-Cordero say the boy wasn’t breathing. He said that’s when he went to check on the child, who he found already cold to the touch.
The child’s autopsy later confirmed the toddler died from acute fentanyl poisoning.
