(KFAN/KFGO) – The RedHawks would try to avoid being swept by the Kansas City Monarchs Thursday night. Hunter Day would toe the rubber for the RedHawks facing Austin Hansen of the Monarchs.
In the bottom of the 2nd, the Monarchs would score two runs on what looked like a routine grounder by Hudson Head. The RedHawks would get an out at home, but a throwing error into right field by Juan Fernandez would allow the Monarchs to plate two.
The Monarchs would increase their lead to 3-0 with a RBI double by Marcus Smith in the 4th.
It was the top of the 5th inning when the RedHawks would get on the board when Jairus Richards hit his 3rd homerun of the year making in 3-1.
The Monarchs would go up 5-1 in the 5th when Marcus Smith hit a bases loaded single.
In the top of the 6th, Jose Sermo would hit his league leading 9th homerun of the season to make it 5-2. Later in the inning, the RedHawks would load the bases for Jesus Lujano who would hit a two run single to bring the RedHawks within a run.
In the top of the 9th, Dillon Thomas, who was in a 0-13 funk, hit an RBI single to score Aidan Byrne to tie the game 5-5. Thomas would get caught stealing 2nd base to end the inning.
In the bottom of the 9th, Monarchs’ Marcus Smith would hit a double off Tyler Jeans to put himself in scoring position. Sahid Valenzuela would hit a walk-off single scoring Smith to give the Monarchs the victory and the series sweep against the RedHawks.
