The stage is set for another unforgettable day at the Minnesota boys state hockey tournament — the kind of day that reminds everyone why “The Tourney” is one of the greatest traditions in sports.
In the Class AA semifinals, Moorhead Spuds once again showed the championship grit that has defined their season. Locked in a tight defensive battle with Edina Hornets, the game sat scoreless through two periods as both teams traded chances and big saves. Then the Spuds did what great teams do — they found another gear. Moorhead erupted for three goals in the third period, skating away with a 3–1 victory and punching their ticket back to the state championship game.
Now the Spuds turn their attention to the final challenge: a showdown tonight with the top-seeded Minnetonka Skippers for the Class AA state title. It’s a matchup of heavyweights and another chance for Moorhead to cement its place among Minnesota hockey’s elite by possibly winning back to back state championships.
At noon the spotlight belongs to northern Minnesota in the Class A championship. Two storied programs — the Warroad Warriors and Hibbing/Chisholm Bluejackets — will battle for the state crown in an all-northern final. Warroad earned its spot with an impressive 6–3 semifinal win over Delano.
