Hunters can help reduce the population of light geese through a federally authorized spring conservation harvest from Feb. 18 through April 30. Light geese are a group of overabundant migratory waterfowl that include snow geese, blue-phased snow geese and the smaller Ross’s geese. This conservation action aims to reduce damage by these geese to fragile ecosystems in their arctic breeding habitat.
Hunters may get a permit starting Feb. 18 from DNR license agents (mndnr.gov/licenses/agents.html) online (mndnr.gov/licenses) or by phone at 888-665-4236. Harvest regulations are on the Minnesota DNR website (mndnr.gov/hunting/waterfowl/lightgoose).
